Land prices lower in Dundee
Dundee appears to be bucking the trend among Scottish cities as the average price of buying land for building across the country shot up by 150%.
While Glasgow and Edinburgh saw rises of 472% and 160% since 1995, respectively, Dundee steadied at 1%, according to a Scottish Executive review.

But a Dundee-based chartered surveyor has poured scorn on the figures, suggesting the percentage growth in the city is closer to 50%.

John Bennett, senior partner at J& E Shepherd chartered surveyors in Dundee, said, “I don’t know where they are getting these figures from. I just can’t believe Dundee has seen just a 1% growth over the nine-year period.

“If I were to go through the sales I’ve conducted over the years, I know I’d be able to show a rise over the years greater than that. I would say the figure is more like 40-50%.”

Latest figures show the cost of buying a house in Dundee has risen by an average of 22% this year.

Dundee has the lowest average price for a house at £76,592, according to the Lloyds TSB price monitor.
