It’s not 100% certain that he will be signing for them but, back at Tannadice, the belief now is that United will not be able to match the offers that have come in from elsewhere.

“I spoke to Charlie at 7.30 this morning and he told me about this,” said Ian today.

“Of course I am disappointed that it now looks like he’ll be going elsewhere, although I would stress I believe he is still considering other offers and I never say never.

“What I would like to stress is that Charlie Miller has not been greedy, not in the slightest. It is just that I am unable to give him an offer just now.”

At Dundee, the last of this week’s trialists, a Frenchman who can play anywhere along the back line and also has experience of playing in midfield, started training with the Dark Blues today.

Boss Jim Duffy will have a close look at him and will also be welcoming more new faces over the weekend.

“We’ve got another couple of players arriving and they should start training with us on Monday.

“In most cases, I am not putting a time limit on how long they’ll be here for, it’s just a case of having a look and taking things from there.”
