He also called on Dee 4 Life critics and other fans to become involved with the Trust.

Speaking exclusively to the Tele, Mr Knight said, “Dee 4 Life have not suddenly gone quiet — quite the contrary, in fact.

“Although, in terms of the public eye, this may not seem the case, we are continuing to have meaningful dialogue with Dundee FC.

“We have concluded matters with the club’s administrators and are now dealing directly with directors Peter and Jimmy Marr as the club strives to come out of administration.

“To that end, we would hope to be in a position to make an announcement in the next week that would include Dee 4 Life investing a six-figure sum into the club.

“This is surely good news, both for the fans and the club, and follows the previous positive announcements emanating from the football club regarding the imminent end of administration, the fear of the 10-point penalty being removed, remaining at Dens Park, the installation of undersoil heating, Jim Duffy extending his tenure and rising season ticket sales.

“To get to where we now are has been a remarkable turnaround in the club’s fortunes and we can now look forward to the future.

“This makes it all the more galling when it is suggested, ridiculously, that Dee 4 Life were working to somehow save the club for themselves, and are ‘deluded individuals’.

“I can speak collectively for everyone involved in Dee 4 Life, who have given up countless time and shown the utmost dedication, that their only objectives were to assist in saving the club and to strengthen the fans’ position should the first objective be achieved.

“I don’t think even our fiercest critics could deny that we have achieved this. We have already put in £50,000 to the club and we are on the verge of agreeing another six-figure investment.

“Where did people think the money was going to go?

“What did people think we were going to do with it?

“The money could only go one place and that place is Dundee Football Club. To suggest anything else is utterly ridiculous.

“Dee 4 Life have no interest in assuming control of the football club, but we feel that it is only right and just that the fans have a ‘say’ in the running of it.

“After the way the fans rallied to assist in saving the club, surely that is no more than they deserve.

“D.Y.’s letter is all the more disappointing, given that he describes the efforts of Dee 4 Life as ‘one of the most successful campaigns to save a club not only in Scotland but in the whole of the UK’.

“Dee 4 Life continues to plan and prepare for next season and if any fan, including D.Y., wishes to get involved with the Trust, they have a democratic right to put themselves forward for election to the Trust Board.

“The AGM will be held in August and fresh faces, bringing new ideas and enthusiasm, would always be welcomed.”

Now that Dundee FC are about to emerge from administration, and ready to embark on a new season, not only with new hope but with a new board, am I the only one wondering why Dee 4 Life have suddenly gone so quiet?

Their silence is really quite deafening from the position of only a few weeks ago.

Could it be some of the well-meaning individuals who rallied to the cause of ‘Save Our Club’ harboured ambitions of not only saving the club but saving it for themselves?

Every supporter would love to be in control and I feel this has clouded some people’s judgment and could cast a shadow over what has become one of the most successful campaigns to save a club, not only in Scotland but in the whole of the UK.

The problem is quite simple. When will Dee 4 Life hand over ALL the money they collected from day one to the club?

Each and every individual, company or organisation that contributed did so on the understanding all the monies raised would go to the club.

No doubt others have questions for the Dee 4 Life team, but it would be sad if all the good work done on behalf of the club by them was somehow derailed by a few deluded individuals who somehow thought they could gain control of this great club on the cheap. — D.Y., Dundee.

Rangers made an initial bid of £250,000 for the 25-year-old hitman, but that offer was a considerable way short of Dundee’s valuation of a player who scored 25 goals last season.

Dundee, however, insist they will not be sold short and, with season ticket sales continuing at a healthy rate — 2200 have now been snapped up — are in no rush to sell their prize asset.

A spokesman for Dundee confirmed an approach had been made, but added Novo would only be leaving if the fee suited Dundee.

He said, “I can confirm we have an official inquiry from another SPL club for Nacho Novo.

“But there is no need for us to do anything in haste. What we would never do is name a price for the player, that would be completely foolhardy.

“We’ve an idea in our minds what Nacho’s true value is and it’s up to clubs to make realistic offers.

“But we are now two thirds of the way towards bringing in the money we need to from season tickets to meet our business plan and, as long as the fans continue to respond as they have done, there is no pressure to sell anyone for a knockdown price.”

However, with Martin O’Neill now officially entering the race for Novo — Leicester City have also been credited with an interest — it seems almost inevitable the former Raith Rovers man will be moving on.

Meanwhile, it’s believed a second Premiership club are showing an interest in keeper Julian Speroni. Crystal Palace have already tabled a £500,000 bid for the Argentinian.

Dundee United held their AGM today at Tannadice.

He was expected to sign on at McDiarmid Park yesterday, but, having just returned from his break late on Monday night, decided it was best to travel to Perth today to sign.

His signature brings the Perth club’s close- season signing tally to five.

Kevin Rutkiewicz from Aberdeen, Lee Hardy from Ayr, and Sean Webb and David Hannah from Ross County have also become new Saints.

Saints team boss John Connolly said there are unlikely to be any more additions to the squad this week, although he is striving to bring more players to the club prior to the season’s start.

Speaking after Marshall had signed today, John said, “Colin is a young lad with a lot of potential.

“He’s lightning quick and can net about seven-10 goals next season for us from the middle of the park.

“He had a good season at Clyde and I intend playing him in a wide midfield role.”
