SAINTS SNAP UP HANNAH

St Johnstone’s new signing DAVID HANNAH at McDiarmid Park today.

St Johnstone today made Ross County midfielder David Hannah their fourth summer signing (write Eric Nicolson and James Masson).
The former Dundee United and Celtic man has agreed a two-year deal with the McDiarmid Park side after Ross County released the 30-year-old from his three-year contract in Dingwall.

Hannah explained, “My daughter starts school in the Dundee area this summer and I was looking to get back to this area for family reasons. Ross County were keen to keep me and I was their club captain, but I have to look after my family.

“From a playing point of view, this is also a great move for me as St Johnstone are a club who should be an SPL side. I’ve only spent one year out of top flight in my career and I want to get back there as soon as possible.

“I have come face to face with a few of the players here, like Paul Bernard, and it will be good to play with them next season.”

Saints boss John Connolly has yet to decide who will be his captain next season, but if Hannah is given the nod he will “relish the chance”.

The Perth team boss said, “This is a big signing for us. We needed to bring in an experienced player after Rudi Vata, Mark Reilly, Paddy Connolly and Miksu Paatelainen parted company with the club. David has bags of experience and we’ll play him in the middle of the park.

“We’ve brought in three exciting young players this season in Kevin Rutkiewicz from Aberdeen, Lee Hardy from Ayr and Sean Webb from Ross County, and now we’ve brought in a player with more experience under his belt. David has played at the top level and he wants to win things.”

John revealed that Saints’ signing spree is unlikely to have ended.

“We have bids in for a midfielder and forward, and are waiting to hear if we’ll get the players we want,” he added.

Saints have also been linked with Clyde midfielder Colin Marshall, but are remaining tight-lipped with regard to whether or not he’s a target.

Meanwhile, the club are still waiting to see if Keigan Parker, Simon Donnelly and Peter MacDonald will line up for them next season. They are still waiting to hear if these players will accept new deals.

Meanwhile, Stuart Taylor, released by St Johnstone, has signed for Ross County.

NO NEWS was bad news so far as Dundee United’s bid to hang on to Charlie Miller is concerned.

Neither Miller or his agent John Viola had contacted manager Ian McCall by last night and, accordingly, the Tangerines have now withdrawn their offer of a new deal for the 28-year-old.

Unless there is a dramatic late twist, that means Miller’s three years at Tannadice are now over and he is expected to move to either Spain or England in the near future.

United will now turn their attention to finding a replacement for Miller and it is understood Ian already has several options in mind.
