Worse than third world

The rubbish at the back of the building in Main Street, Dundee.

I LIVE in Main Street, Dundee, and for five years I have been asking the council’s environmental health department to take some action against some landlords who take no responsibility for their tenants.
The condition of the area at the back of our flats is disgusting. It was so bad we could no longer put refuse out. My neighbour and I took our refuse to work to dispose of it.

The backing we had received from environmental health had been zero. They took no action against people dumping rubbish.

The Tele published photographs a few years ago and, until a few of days ago, nothing had changed.

Then, out of the blue, environmental health came and took away the household items (two suites, carpets, wooden furniture) but left all the household refuse such as foodstuff, nappies, and other filth, which is the source of a fly infestation and rats.

Notes were left telling people to clean up. Who are we kidding? Do they really think the people who made this disgusting mess are going to clean it?

We need some positive action. Fine the people and fine the landlords responsible for them.

These landlords have got us living in an environment that is worse than in the Third World.

Why are we paying council tax? — Flat Owner.

Unfair comparison
I READ the criticism of Dundee’s airport by the SNP using comparisons with Galway in Ireland. Galway is a major tourist resort of world-wide renown.

The airport at Galway is described by some as international and has received large-scale funding from the EU. Politicians of all parties in the Dundee area should be lobbying for both European and Government funding to extend the runway to cater for larger aircraft.

Stop criticising and let’s have a bit of action. — David Cowan.

Move bus stop
I WOULD like to see a bus stop near Grove Health Centre in Broughty Ferry, Dundee.

When the bus went down Westfield Road, the centre was just around the corner. Now we have to go to outside the YMCA for the bus, which is a good distance for old people to walk.

There are three bus stops near each other in Brook Street (YMCA, Post Office and Superdrug) so why not move one to the west end of the street? — J. M., Broughty Ferry.

Took £20
I THANK the person who handed in my 83-year-old mother's purse to Dundee's Mecca Bingo, Nethergate, on May 30. But I have nothing but contempt for the rat who took £20 out of the purse. — M. Morris, Easson’s Angle, Dundee.
