FURTHER BLOWS FOR UNITED
Dundee United were dealt further blows today with news that Derek McInnes and Andy McLaren will almost certainly miss Saturday’s home game against Hearts (writes Graeme Finnan).
McInnes has pulled a hamstring, while McLaren has picked up a calf strain. The pair will join Jim McIntyre on the sidelines after it was revealed the former Killie man may miss the remainder of the season due to a groin injury.

Those absentees, however, may pave the way for ‘supersub’ Jason Scotland to make a rare starting appearance. The Trinidadian striker came off the bench to inspire fightbacks against both Dundee and Rangers, but may well be handed the opportunity to lead the line against the Jambos.

“Jason has done well coming on in these games, and there is a possibility he’ll start on Saturday,” said boss Ian McCall.

The United manager watched Scotland’s 1-0 loss to Denmark last night and was full of praise for Tannadice keeper Paul Gallacher.

“Paul made two or three excellent saves and I was very pleased with his performance,” added Ian, before stating that contract talks were continuing with Gallacher, whose current Tannadice deal expires in the summer.

Australian defender Steve Laurie, who recently spent a trial period at Tannadice, has left the club, although there’s a possibility he may be invited back for pre-season training. Kilmarnock are also said to be keen on the 21-year-old.

DUNDEE boss Jim Duffy was boosted by the return of Steven Milne and Brent Sancho after the pair missed training earlier this week due to injuries.

However, missing was Mark Fotheringham after the youngster returned with a tight hamstring following his exploits with the Scotland U/21 team against Denmark on Tuesday.

Lee Mair, Steven Robb and Sebastien Kneissl are all facing a race against time to be fit for Saturday’s trip to face Hibs.

CHIRPY SAINTS
Miksu Paatelainen who, along with Jim Weir, is in charge of team affairs at McDiarmid Park until St Johnstone appoint a successor to Billy Stark, said today the mood in the camp was chirpy (writes James Masson).
“Obviously, it was a strange feeling earlier in the week with Billy leaving the club.

“But the boys are very professional and they’re building up nicely to Saturday’s away game against QOS,” said Miksu. “Everyone is on their toes and looking ahead to the match,” he added.

Ian Maxwell is serving the last of a two-game ban, but Jim Weir came through the Reserve League Cup Final victory over St Mirren OK and, providing he suffers no more mishaps, may be included in Saturday’s squad.
