Letters - 05 April 2004
Life-threatening practice
I READ the letter about the mindless idiots who endanger drivers on Dundee’s Kingsway.
My grand-daughter’s car was also pelted with eggs from the Macalpine flyover recently. She too had her baby with her.

The eggs splattered all over her windscreen and she could hardly see where she was going.

She managed to keep control of the car but there could have been horrendous consequences.

These morons are getting away with it because of lack of action. When my grand-daughter contacted the police after she arrived home, they didn’t come to see her and she knows of no follow-up.

Similar incidents have happened before from this bridge and youths from the Ardler area gather there.

You would think that something would be done to stop this life-threatening practice. — Irate Gran.

Playpark pressure needed

The way it was. Children at the swings on Magdalen Green.

AN APPLICATION, by Scottish Enterprise Tayside for outline planning permission to turn the former railyards to the west of Dundee Station into a base for digital media companies, has been given the go-ahead by the council.

The scheme could also see other retail/commercial development along with housing.

I await with interest the detailed plans for the site.

One area that could be hit is the foot of Roseangle.

It was stated the west end of the railyards’ site would be for private-sector housing, plus student housing next to the existing student accommodation off Roseangle.

A new access road from the west would be created at the foot of Roseangle, although traffic would be banned except for emergency vehicles.

Ward councillor Fraser Macpherson has said he has received an assurance that any changes to the car park for the road at the bottom of Roseangle will not result in the loss of any spaces, plus any new housing would have its own additional parking.

However, all this would put pressure on the existing kiddies’ playpark, which has been there for many years.

Even if it has to be moved, the council must be pressured to keep this kind of facility in the area. — Worried Mum.

P. S. Just to prove a playground has been around the area for a long time, I enclose a picture of some vintage. It has been in my family’s possession for many years, but I have no date for it.

Stroke victims deserves money
I WRITE in response to an article in the Tele saying that Dundee has been awarded money from the National Lottery for drug addicts and alcohol abusers.

What about stroke victims who have been refused adequate wheelchair access to their home and told that there is insufficient specialist housing for disabled people?

I appreciate that drug abuse and alcoholism are illnesses but they are self-inflicted nonetheless. However, so many more causes deserve the same funding and support.

Having a young stroke victim in your family is traumatising, but it is made one hundred times worse when they come home only to find the help required just isn’t there.

Let’s get to grips with what’s politically correct and what’s morally disgraceful and give the money to causes with the greatest reward. — Devil’s Advocate.

Viva Lochee High Street!
LOCHEE COULD shortly acquire the mantle of “Little Las Vegas”.

There will soon be three bookmakers within the space of fifty yards on the High Street.

Is it only a matter of time before the council books in the likes of Harry Connick Junior or Madonna to appear live at the Highgate Centre? — Victor Duncan, Lochee.

All the money she had
MY DAUGHTER dropped her purse, which had her name and address inside, when getting out of a car on March 26, outside her home on Charleston Drive, Dundee.

I want whoever found the purse to know that the £20 cash and the £15 in meter tokens was all the money she had.

She brings up her two children single-handed and works hard to provide. — Alex Dunn, Dundee.

Dundee ghost stories wanted
CAN ANY kind reader assist me by sending any ghost stories of Bonnie Dundee (my home toon)? I would be so grateful. — Liam Hagan, 3 Greig Crescent, Armadale EH48 2PS.
