| Abertay Housing Association has been carrying out the regeneration of North Fintry – replacing surplus flats that were demolished with state-of-the-art cottages and bungalows.
The new homes are on Amond Way, a street named after late, well-respected policeman PC Trevor Amond.
Trevor, who died almost two years ago at the age of 54 from cancer, did a power of work, over and above his police duties, in the community.
The houses feature a mechanical ventilation system which circulates healthy fresh air throughout each home.
The system, funded by the Scottish Executive’s Scottish Community and Householder Renewables Initiative Grants Scheme, creates an environment where damp does not exist and it will substantially reduce heating costs for residents.
More importantly to families with children, it will also help alleviate problems related to asthma.
Further regeneration is planned by Abertay Housing Association – a further 21 homes are due to be completed in the next few weeks, followed by another 56 next year.
Laurie Easom, who has just moved into her new home with husband Richard and their two children, said, “With this cold weather the family is enjoying the benefits of the central heating which is a big improvement on the system we had in our previous house.
“The air in the house feels fresh and all smells seem to vanish in no time, which is due to the clever ventilation system.
“There are no noises from outside to be heard, even from our next-door neighbours, because of the soundproofing.
“The house and the facilities are just fantastic for a young family.” |
