Dundee’s growing reputation as a centre of excellence in biotechnology was cemented today with a conference that attracted about 200 delegates and speakers from all over the world.
The event was organised by the BioDundee partnership and it focused on discussing the future of the industry and on establishing links between Scottish and foreign companies.

Among the speakers were some of the city’s top scientists, including Dundee University Professors David Lane, Philip Cohen and Roland Wolf, and Dr Tom Shepherd, chief executive of CXR Biosciences.

Also taking part were speakers from the USA, China and France, and the delegates included biotech and pharmaceutical executives, industry analysts, financiers and medical and scientific experts.

There will be a dinner for the delegates tonight and the guest speaker is to be Dundee-born actor Brian Cox.

He has diabetes and is involved in a fundraising campaign to build a world-class global diseases research facility in the city.

Councillor Joe Morrow, city council economic development convener, said the conference was a chance for international scientists to learn more about Dundee and for the city to see how it could be more successful in the global market.
