Dundee’s Glebelands Primary School today took part in the Junior Engineers for Britain 2004 K’Nex Challenge.
Throughout February and March, over 800 primary pupils from 23 schools across Tayside will take part in this challenge, designed to give them an exciting introduction into the world of design, engineering and construction.

Working in pairs, the budding engineers from Primaries Four, Five and Six will be given an engineering task and a box of K’Nex Construction Kit.

They will then have two hours to demonstrate their imagination, creativity and ingenuity by designing and building a model to complete the task, before presenting their finished construction to their classmates.

Throughout the challenge, the pupils will be assisted by a local engineer, who will be on hand to answer any questions.

When finished, each pupil will receive a certificate as a record of their participation. The winning pair at each challenge will be put forward to represent their school at the Tayside Area Final in May where they will compete for a place in the Scottish Final.

The Challenge is organised, promoted and delivered in Tayside schools by SETPOINT Scotland North.

SETPOINT Co-ordinator, Lesley Robertson, said, “This provides children with a wonderful opportunity to gain a basic insight into the career of engineering, whilst also proving learning can be fun!”
