Crushed to death
A man was crushed to death in a tragic accident at a Perthshire coal merchants early today, writes Eric Nicolson.
The incident happened just after 7am at A. Scott & Sons, Craigrossie, Main Street, Bridge of Earn.

Ambulance, police and fire brigade were all called to the scene, but the 47-year-old man was dead before any treatment could be administered by paramedics.

It is understood he worked at the coalyard, but police are not naming him until a formal identification has taken place and his family have been contacted.

A spokesperson for the ambulance service said, “The 999 call was made at 7.07am and we were advised that a man had been trapped and crushed between two lorries.

Unfortunately, by the time the police and fire brigade were able to assist in freeing him, he was found to have died from his injuries.

“It’s obviously a very tragic incident.”

A full inspection of the site was being conducted by Tayside Police.

All members of staff were sent home and police officers cordoned off the yard.

It is understood one of the lorries was stationary and the other was moving when the accident happened.
