Dundee city centre fire drama
A fire at a Dundee Chinese restaurant closed a busy city centre street today, writes Graham Huband
North Lindsay Street was cordoned off at the junction with South Ward Road following a kitchen blaze at the Food Discovery Restaurant shortly before 1.40 pm.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze but smoke had risen throughout the four-storey building and checks were made to ensure all occupants were accounted for.

Tayside Fire Brigade Assistant Divisional Officer Ron Massie said the blaze had taken hold in the kitchen of the restaurant.

Four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus tackled the flames while others checked the building above to ensure no one was in danger.

ADO Massie said the cause of the blaze was unknown at this time and would be investigated.

He said, “We received a number of calls for smoke in the area and attended with appliances from Blackness Road initially and then requested two water tender ladders and a hydraulic platform to be sent to the scene.
