| The little Spaniard, whose goal in Sunday’s derby win took his tally to an impressive 19 for the season, has also been the target of an inquiry from Rangers.
However, it’s unlikely the cash-strapped Govan club would be able to meet Dundee’s valuation of the player, while the Dark Blues also insist that, despite being in administration, they do not have to sell their prize asset.
And, while Valencia have the financial clout to make a realistic bid for Novo, the Primera Liga outfit are more likely to invite the striker over for a trial period first, something the Dens men wouldn’t agree to.
Dundee boss Jim Duffy insists, while there have been inquiries, there have been no firm offers and that he isn’t actively trying to sell the player.
“We did receive an inquiry from Valencia, but that’s as far as it went — end of story,” said Jim.
“There have been no bids for Nacho and no money has been discussed whatsoever.”
Duffy realises the detrimental effect selling Novo could have on home attendances and, with a possible bumper pay day on the horizon if they can reach the CIS Cup Final in March should they beat Livingston next week, any fee for Novo would have to take that into consideration.
Meanwhile, there was good news and bad news on the injury picked up by Lee Wilkie against United.
The big defender twisted his knee and had to leave the field in the first half and it was feared he may require an operation.
However, scan results have revealed that, while there is some damage to the ligament, Wilkie won’t require surgery.
“The scan has shown that there is some damage to the fibres in Lee’s knee, but he won’t need an operation. He will be out for a period of time, but it could have been worse,” added Jim.
The squad were forced to train indoors today due to the snow and freezing temperatures making outdoor work impossible.
