Still in good ‘Nic’ after all these years

Margaret and the bike today.

If you keep a thing long enough, it’ll come back into fashion, so they say. Dundee cycle shop owners Bryn and Margaret Williams can certainly vouch for that.
Cycle manufacturer Raleigh’s announcement that they are to re-launch their 70s status symbol, the Chopper bike, had the couple, who own Nicholson’s Cyclelife shop, reaching for the family album.

And there was Margaret, resplendent in fashionable flares and tank top, with the prized machine.

The couple have now unearthed an original model of the bike, 1.5 million of which were sold in the decade from 1969.

Nicholson’s, then owned by Margaret’s late father Jack, known affectionately as ‘Big Nic’, won an award as one of the biggest sellers of the bike in the UK, and Margaret was pictured on one of the mean machines in 1970.

And just to prove the bike isn’t the only thing around with staying power, both pictures were taken by Tele photographer Derek Jamieson.

Nicholson’s hope to have the new version of the iconic bike on sale soon.

Some enthusiasts have already placed orders in an attempt to recapture their lost youth.
