| However, the proud Leven man is now the father of another bouncing baby which, like her sister, arrived before Isla and Kevin could reach Forth Park Hospital Maternity Hospital in Kirkcaldy.
In an amazing coincidence, Katey Jake was born on the same stretch of road as her sister. But, unlike last time, when Abbie was delivered with the help of paramedics in the back of an ambulance, Isla and Kevin had to manage themselves in the front of the family car.
And the couple, who have another daughter Bobbie (9), did a grand job, for mother and baby, who weighed in at 6 lbs 5 ozs, are both doing fine. Taxi driver Kevin said, “Katey Jake wasn’t due until January 20 and, although the waters broke on Saturday, we thought we had plenty of time.
“But Isla woke me up at 6 am on Sunday saying she was in pain and we thought it was time to go. We phoned around trying to get someone to look after Bobbie and Abbie, but got answering machines. Eventually we got my mum, and headed off to Kirkcaldy.”
The couple stopped at a Leven garage for papers and Kevin joked with the staff if they wanted to see a woman in labour, they should look out of the window. Little did he know how right he was. By the time he got back to the car, the new baby was on the way.
Kevin added, “We raced along the Standing Stane Road towards Kirkcaldy, but Isla started screaming and I knew we weren’t going to make it. We had just passed the point where Abbie was born when we had to stop. I got out and went round to the passenger side and it just happened, Katey Jake was born.
“I managed to get the cord off her neck and we continued on to Forth Park. A couple of nurses came out, cut the cord and took Isla and Katey Jake up to the ward. They are both doing fine.” |
