Staff at the Inland Revenue Contact Centre in Dundee have been fund-raising for BBC’s Children in Need appeal.

Today, members of staff and senior management paid £1 to wear their pyjamas to work in their bid to reach a target sum of £1500.

In the afternoon, a “Gunge the Employee” event took place, where four staff, including the deputy contact manager, were “gunged” with a concoction of beans, spaghetti, soup and ketchup, by the highest bidder. Staff have been collecting money all week, gathering more than £300 from a cake and candy stall, a book stall and a tombola draw.

A football auction has also taken place, selling tops from Dundee, Dundee United and Celtic and a signed football from St Johnstone.

Staff at the Procurator Fiscal’s office in Dundee also dressed up to raise money for BBC Children in Need and Radio Tay’s Caring for Kids appeal, with anyone who failed to enter into the spirit of things forced to pay a penalty.

Having already raised £40 from selling home baking throughout this week, they are hoping an auction will boost their total.

People had the chance to bid for signed Dundee and Dundee United shirts, a sailing weekend for two, remote control helicopter, a portrait of their choice by a local artist, meals for two and a day at the races.

Children in Need organisers are hoping to raise at least £26 million tonight in the 24th televised BBC appeal.

Youngsters affected by homelessness, HIV, sexual abuse and drug addiction are being helped by the Children in Need appeal which managed to raise more than £26 million last year.
