| Dundee Odeon was today preparing for the gala charity performance of the 20th Century Fox blockbuster Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World.
The red carpet was rolled out at the Douglasfield multiplex, and final preparations were being put in place, to welcome local dignitaries and sports and entertainment celebrities to this evening’s performance of the high seas adventure starring Russell Crowe, Paul Bettany and Billy Boyd.
The charity event is supported by Odeon Cinemas, 20th Century Fox, and has been organised by Trigger Events. The proceeds from tonight’s gala will be given to support the continuing work on the RRS Discovery.
The film performance will be followed by a party at Fat Sam’s.
And following the UK launch of Hollywood heart-throb Hugh Grant’s latest big screen blockbuster at the weekend in London, the focus switches to St Andrews tonight when it plays host to the Scottish premiere of Love Actually.
The charity screening at the New Picture House in the town is timed to start at 8.45pm and is in aid of the Rector’s Charitable Fund of St Andrews University, headed by the current rector at Scotland’s oldest university, Sir Clement Freud.
Prior to big event there will be a public preview showing at 5.30pm.
St Andrews is no stranger to film launches, with the world premiere of the multi-Oscar winning Chariots of Fire in the 1980s, and a number of student film festivals in recent years. |
