| Schools in Dundee and Perth are planning to link up with counterparts in South America as part of a global education programme.
Tom Jolly, who specialises in creating links between schools at home and abroad, was in Perth today to meet teachers at St Columba’s RC.
He will have talks with education officials from Dundee City Council tomorrow to discuss running a scheme with schools in Peru and Monifieth High School, Craigie High School and Lawside Academy.
The project was formed after Dundee psychologist Sarah Broxholme visited South America and became so touched by the plight of the youngsters that she started up a Salsa night.
The money raised from the classes benefited Peru through a charity called Peace Child International, through which she met Tom Jolly who worked for the charity part-time while running a global education company called GlobalEd.
Mr Jolly, who runs similar schemes in England, met various teachers when he attended one of the Salsa nights.
The project has escalated into a major scheme which he hopes can enhance pupils’ awareness of life in other parts of the world.
“Dundee City Council have been very positive so far and hopefully at our meeting tomorrow we can progress with the project and develop ideas.
“Most of the schools want to do an exchange scheme and we can work that in and whatever the schools want to include in the project,” added Mr Jolly. |
