Fund-raisers help ease children’s stay in hospital

From left, Linda Barclay, Christian Croll of Asda, Sheila McCabe of the clinical investigation unit, Gillian Barclay, Scott Dyer, Pauline McEachen of the children’s ward, Kenny Meek Asda, Ashley Jarrett children’s ward and Mark Wallace, Powerhouse, with the donations for the ward.

Children in Ward 29 of Dundee’s Ninewells Hospital have benefited thanks to the fund-raising efforts of two local women and the support of Milton of Craigie retailers.

Mrs Catherine Long and Mrs Linda Barclay raised £500 in a fund-raising evening, with raffle prize donations from Comet, Asda Milton, and Powerhouse.

Mrs Barclay’s one-year-old grandson Scott was recently a patient in the ward with bronchitis, and during her visits to see him she became aware of the theft of a television from the ward.

She decided to take some action to try to improve the facilities in the ward for both the families of the children and the children themselves.

With Asda Milton and Powerhouse keen to be involved in the local community, further donations were made by both stores, including a TV/VCR unit, a DVD player complete with DVDs, and toys.
