| A Dundee woman is facing the prospect of a second winter with ill-fitting, draughty windows after repairs by a local housing association failed to materialise.
Isabel Reynolds, of Dalmahoy Drive, Ardler, spoke out after over a year of apparent prevarication by Sanctuary Scotland Housing Association Ltd, who had fitted the windows as part of an extensive refurbishment programme in the housing estate early last year.
Sanctuary carried out the programme of modernisation following the stock transfer of council housing.
Ms Reynolds said the windows in her one-bedroom flat were not fitted correctly and have been lined up squint, to the extent there is a gap in the fitting of her living-room window, through which she can see outside.
A similar problem exists in the kitchen, leaving her flat very cold.
“I first became aware of the problem at the end of last year, when the winter set in,” she said. “The flat became very cold, which meant I had to have the heating on a lot more so I had higher bills as well.
“The house is freezing because of this and I first complained to Sanctuary at the end of last year, but nothing much came of it.
“Eventually, in August this year, they came to carry out a 12-month inspection of the refurbishment work and went away with a list of required repairs.
“Not long after that I got a letter saying repairs would be carried out in October. October came, more than once I was given specific dates for workmen coming and every time I was let down.
“Now it looks like I might be spending a second winter with draughty windows.”
In response to Ms Reynold’s complaint, Steve Malone of Sanctuary Housing said he was aware of the situation and could appreciate the frustration she was feeling.
He said, “We have a meeting with our contractors later this week and among the things we will be discussing is our concerns that repairs are not being dealt with fast enough.
“I would expect Ms Reynold’s windows to be repaired in the next week or so.” |
