| A Dundee teenager has returned triumphant from competing in the British Transplant Games at Keele University.
Stewart MacLean (15), a pupil at Baldragon Academy, underwent a kidney transplant operation in November 2000 at Yorkhill Hospital in Glasgow.
This year Stewart has had to contend with highs and lows in his health.
Nevertheless, this week he pulled out all the stops and summoned up the strength to take the bronze in the tug of war with his four team-mates.
“He has been up and down health wise and was in Yorkhill on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th July,” said mum Janet.
“He’s not been well most of the year. Obviously though, to go away he was feeling better.
“He also came fourth in the obstacle race, the badminton and a ball throwing competition.”
Stewart represented Yorkhill at the games and was put up at the new water park hotel at Alton Towers.
By taking part in the games, in which competitors can range in age from two to 75 years, transplant recipients demonstrate the success of organ transplants.
Janet would encourage people to join the donors register and was proud to see that Tayside is ranked among the top regions in Scotland for attracting new registrations this year.
