| Over 40 Dundee youngsters were “awe-struck” when they met their Dundee United idols during a SFA coaching week.
The primary school children from all over Dundee, who have been taking part in goalkeeper training by SFA professionals coaches, met Dundee United’s three professional goalkeepers Paul Gallacher, Tony Bullock and Paul Jarvie before their training session at Gussie Park.
Gavin Levey, a Dundee United and SFA community coach, was surprised at the amount of interest in goalkeeping from Dundee youngsters.
He said, “This is the first course we have run just for goalies and the numbers have been huge.
“The children were a bit awe-struck when the United players came down this morning, who had a chat with the kids and conducted a question and answer session.”
An SFA holiday programme aimed at Dundee girls has also started with a dozen youngsters taking part, led by a female member of the SFA coaching staff.
Gavin continued, “Apparently female soccer is the fastest growing sport in the world. We decided we should pick up on this trend. We will definitely be running girls only courses next year.”
