Traffic jams on A90 after car overturns

17 May 2013 11.00am.

A man was recovering after yesterday suffering shoulder injuries when a car overturned on the A90 near Perth.

The car overturned on the Perth to Dundee carriageway shortly after 5pm, blocking the dual carriageway and causing rush-hour traffic chaos.

A number of emergency vehicles attended the scene, around a mile east of Kinfauns, including three fire engines and crews used cutting equipment to remove one casualty from the vehicle, which had turned on to its side within the inside lane.

As they worked, tailbacks of more than five miles built up towards Perth and over the Friarton Bridge and surrounding roads, including Dundee Road in Perth.

A spokesman for Fire and Rescue Scotland said: “Crews from Perth attended following reports that two people were trapped within the vehicle.

“One was released before our arrival, but we had to use hydraulic cutting equipment to release the other casualty.”

The Scottish Ambulance Service offered treatment to both casualties. The trapped man suffered a shoulder injury and was taken for checks at after he was released from the vehicle.

Both lanes of the eastbound carriageway remained closed for more than an hour. One lane was reopened after the man was taken to hospital.
